Exciting changes to California law have established a unique niche within the dental profession, giving dental hygienists the ability to provide optimal oral health care while working independently of dentists in a more relaxed, individualized and quieter environment. The Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice (RDHAP) was created as an independent dental hygiene practitioner with a key goal of increasing dental care access for underserved communities.The independence of RDHAPs as providers allow them the freedom and flexibility to reach out to patients in new and creative ways, providing new consumer choices for preventative treatment and services.
